Synopsis

Bracing for the confines of an unwanted marriage, a young huntress seeks one last day of freedom. But when her best friend, Aidan, intrudes on a moment of vulnerability, the line between love and possession begins to blur.

As the hours slip by, Diana sets out after her final prey, accompanied by Aidan. Only when she finds herself caught in one of his traps does she realize the extent of his betrayal, sparking a brutal fight for survival.

Why this story? Why now?

Ancient cultures once understood creation, authority, and the natural world as aspects of feminine power, and their stories of female deities reflected these values. Yet today, women’s autonomy over their bodies and fates is constantly undermined and challenged.

Inspired by the myths surrounding Artemis—a goddess defined by her demand for independence— Fifty Hounds explores themes of women’s agency, power, and illusions of choice.

Deliberately written to blur power and perception, Fifty Hounds allows Diana to believe she is in control even as the story is decided for her. This tension exposes the illusion of agency, until a final, violent recalibration of power.

Stories have the power to broaden perspectives and challenge the systems that shape our world. Led by a predominantly female team, we are crafting a visceral and emotionally honest story about societal constraints placed on women. By weaving together myth and film, we reimagine ancient narratives surrounding the inherent powers of womanhood, using them as a lens to add urgency to conversations about female autonomy—over one’s body and one’s future.

Director Statement

Fifty Hounds was born from my adoration of Artemis and the consequences of loving a wild woman.

Set in a past period but urgent today, Fifty Hounds asks:

Who decides your future? Who owns your body? What is the price of freedom?

We live in a reality where those in power force women into traps they believed were long broken.

I am telling it now because the past is not past and, the stories we think we have outgrown are still being lived.
